Join Russ Cox and Mark Racher for a week of warm weather triathlon training in Lanzarote. Daily coached swim, bike and run catering for a mix of abilities, taking in the climbs and race courses of the island. Ideal for Ironman and Half Ironman triathletes looking for some early season volume to kickstart their year.
With its strong winds and hills, Lanzarote is the perfect location for cycle training. The island is a hub for cyclists and triathletes, road conditions are good and generally quiet. It is also home to the famous Ironman Lanzarote along with numerous other races.
Conditions in February are typically warm, with an average temperature of 18C, little rain and generally lighter winds. A perfect location for a training camp.
Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise will provide high quality half board accommodation for the week. The resort includes a 25m pool, trails for running and easy access to Lanzarote's cycling routes.
Russ Cox, experienced endurance coach and Ironman athlete, will provide a challenging itinerary for all athletes based upon his coaching principles and repeated visits to Lanzarote. He'll join athletes for bike and run sessions providing support and coaching advice as well as coaching poolside every day.
Mark Racher, former British International swimmer and coach, will provide daily swim sessions with poolside coaching and feedback. He'll also join athletes for bike and run sessions to provide additional coaching and support. Mark will be available for massage during the camp.
The focus for this camp is early season training volume, a hint of competition and some fun. Each day will involve swim, bike and run: coached sessions in the 25m pool, guided rides around the island, including the Ironman course, and daily run options to complete the training.
Sessions will incorporate sections of the Ironman bike course, the Ocean Lava bike course and the new Lanzarote 70.3 bike course, along with the traditional time trial up Tabayesco.
The camp is targeted at Ironman and Half Ironman athletes, but would be suitable for anyone looking for a challenging training week. Cycling will make up the majority of the training and you should be comfortable and prepared to ride daily with distances potentially up to the full Ironman. Athletes should expect between 3 to 8 hours of training per day, although there will be options to do more or less.
The camp will be limited to a maximum of 12 athletes to ensure that everyone will receive a high standard of coaching and support from the two coaches.
